Exceptional 18th Century Solid Silver Double Case Onion Watch, By John May, Circa 1750
Magnificent 18th century silver watch (Onion) by John May, circa 1750.
Superb polychrome enamel dial, with a decoration of fishermen in a port. Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Original hands in forged metal.
Very beautiful movement in gilded brass, with verge escapement, chain, fusee, atypical two-legged cock for England, with floral decoration. First case in solid silver, and second case in solid silver with decoration of characters, flowers and interlacing, in a perfect state of conservation.
Which is very rare for this type of watch, the decorations are often very worn. This one has been perfectly preserved.
