Bronze sculpture with brown patina, representing a man and an eagle, Signed on the base "MOULIN hors concours" and founder "Thiébaut", marked model on plaster. 19th century. Hippolyte Alexandre Julien Moulin, born in Paris on June 12, 1832 and died in Saint-Maurice on December 27, 1883, is a French sculptor. Biography: Hippolyte Moulin is the son of Félix Julien Moulin, a novelty dealer and Clarisse Angélique Ferrand. He was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris on April 6, 1855 and said to be a student of Auguste Ottin and Antoine-Louis Barye. He married Alice Rachel Sasportas in Paris on April 7, 1868. They had three children: Hélène Clarisse Émilie, Henriette Annie Suzanne, and Jacques Ismaël. Very involved with his friend the painter Hippolyte Dubois in the Federation of artists and supporters of the Commune, he participated in the Bloody Week during which his friend painted a portrait of Moulin. Moulin exhibited at the Salon from 1857 to 1878, where he won medals in 1864, 1867 and 1869. He won a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1878. He had to abandon his studies and continue his training alone. Speaking a little English and German, he gave lessons to survive. Hippolyte Moulin died on December 27, 1883 at his home, at 51, Grande-Rue in Saint-Maurice
