Attributed to Louis Isidore CHOISELAT (1784-1853) Pair of candlesticks Cast bronze, finely chiseled and gilded Empire period, circa 1810 H. 30 x diam 14 cm The pair of candlesticks rests on a circular base with an applied plant decoration, the base of the shaft decorated with large palmettes, the shaft with a so-called tortoiseshell decoration, the Binet treated in the manner of a Corinthian column. The elegance and quality of the chiseling reflect the work of Choiselat. Indeed, the general appearance of the model tends to give it, but once dismantled, Choiselat's works have the characteristic of having a threaded rod that is quite large in diameter, unlike his colleagues such as Galle or Thomire. Louis Isidore CHOISELAT (1784-1853) Also known as Choiselat Gallien, he was an important goldsmith and bronze worker under the Empire. His workshop was made up of a founder, chaser and gilder, which allows us to compare and shed light on the author of the model by comparing it with the copies delivered to the Mobilier impérial. Under the Empire, he established himself as one of the main bronze manufacturers in Paris. Born to a salt merchant father, he apprenticed with Jean-Baptiste GALLIEN, also a bronze worker, whose daughter he married in 1812. When he married, he took over the family business and developed it to become one of the main suppliers to the Imperial Administration Condition report: Very good general condition, some very slight wear
