"Protestant Bible, Basel 1744"
Rare Protestant Bible, published in Basel in 1744, by Jean Rodolphe Im-Hoff, translated into French by David Martin, Minister of the Holy Gospels in Utrecht. We will recall here the persecutions that Protestants experienced in France since the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. It is therefore not surprising to see a pastor with a French name exercising his functions in a German city. Documents concerning this community are therefore very rare in France in the middle of the 18th century. Beautiful copy, rigorous cover of black shagreen marked with cold, the edges gilded. An engraving in frontispiece (cracked) Good used condition.
