Born in Kerch. In 1889 he was a student of IK Aivazovsky in Feodosia, in 1893 he graduated from the Odessa drawing school, where he was a student of K. He died in 1942 during the siege of Leningrad. Kalmoukov mainly painted landscapes with a marine theme and often visited Crimea. His brushes include works such as "Moonlit Night in Kikeneiz", "Foggy Morning", "Surf at the Iron Cliffs" and "Twilight". In the 1930s, he painted several paintings for the Arctic and Antarctic Museum and the Leningrad Mining Institute Museum.
