"" A Moment Of Relaxation In The Park", Girardet, 19th C."
Oil on canvas representing a moment of relaxation in a park. A young officer of the 6th Cuirassier Regiment entertains his child, sitting on his mother's lap, with his pair of gloves. The scene undoubtedly takes place in the fall; the park is difficult to locate. Signature lower right "GIRARDET", with a first name Eugène in front which seems to have been added at the time. Although Eugène GIRARDET, known as an orientalist, also painted genre scenes, it is more likely his three-year-old younger brother Jules, better known for this type of scene. Born in 1856, he became a student of CABANEL in the fine arts. He paints portraits, genre scenes, some orientalist subjects, but specializes in historical scenes. His works were rewarded at the Paris Salon in 1881, and he won the silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Museums: Cholet, Morlaix, Quimper, Saint-Denis, as well as in the United Kingdom (Williamson art gallery and museum) Good condition, original canvas and frame. Without frame.
