Object description :

"Palimpsest As A Work Of Reflection "
The palimpsest (from the ancient Greek παλίμψηστος / palímpsêstos, “scratched again”) is a manuscript written on previously used parchment, from which the inscriptions have been removed to write on it again. Every text is a palimpsest, at the crossroads of erased traces and a new throw of the dice. Every poem is a summons of the unheard, a proposition of the impossible. Always on the crest line where the unnoticed breaks silence and raises its voice, forever unlisted in the ball of tamed prose. Choosing to decline fragments of the world according to the axis of the four physical elements - earth, water, air and fire - is to try to limit writing in a dancing body and to strike things at corner of the verb. Who other than the artist, archaeologist, can give us the keys to reading this window which invites us to a little introspection….This canvas, imagined, created, coated then scraped, and refined in the sublime scents of the coast of California, somewhere on the famous 17 miles drive, will end up stretched between two driftwoods then will be signed and dated March 1993. Then the life of Chistine Foulché brought her back to France where she excelled in her works and in her larger-than-life animal drawings. I dared to purchase a beautiful set without having further explanations, but I do not despair of meeting the artist...I am committed to it. Unique piece which will be followed by other sales. Here is an excerpt from our exchanges: “I am very touched that my works arouse so much verb in you… They are not from today…. Every artist is nourished by what surrounds him, at the time we were immersed in archeology and history, through restoration and casting, which was our profession. I was very immersed in the materials that I had to restore...so I naturally transmitted this in my paintings...the impermanence of life, its progressive but inevitable erasure, the passage of time, are questions that questioned me a lot . When we discover an archaeological remains, it is often incomplete, fragmentary, and we are often left to interpret its meaning and its function. A part of him will always escape our understanding... All this is found in my works from this period, the signs and symbols are there to evoke this mystery... the lunations, the passage of time, of a time when it was counted in moons ...the materials, themselves fragile, impose a certain distance and respect... You must have been surprised to discover my current work on my site Ataraxies... but looking closer, I do the same thing, I capture the mystery of those who are disappearing…I try to restore their splendid perfection, and I know that a part of their being will always escape me…and that is very good so…” “words by Christine Foulché”.
