Gaddang man's headdress, Luzon Island, Philippines
This small suklong headdress is made of finely braided fibers and decorated with glass bead pendants and two remarkable mother-of-pearl basiwak ornaments. It was worn by the Gaddang men of Luzon Island, Philippines, on the back of the head.
Our example, with its complete ornamentation, shows a singular delicacy of weaving and details, proof of its antiquity.
A similar piece is registered in the collections of the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac under inventory number 70.2007.6.1.10.
