Charles Kvapil (1884-1957) Pacy-sur -Eure summer 1939, peonies oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left, 73x116cm Charles Kvapil is a Belgian painter of the School of Paris, of Czechoslovak origin, born in November 1884 and died in Paris in 1957. His first works were exhibited in 1908 at the Antwerp Salon and until 1914. After the First World War during which he was mobilized, Charles Kvapil moved to Paris and set up his workshop in Montmartre, in the Hameau des Artistes, between rue Lepic and no. 11 avenue Junot, subsequently he also lived in Villiers sur Morin, rue du Touarte. He revealed himself for the first time to the Parisian public in 1920 during the Salon des Indépendants and became more and more known, until he was able to present his works in Paris, Munich, Brussels, Geneva, in Italy, in Stockholm, in London and New York. It is today represented in numerous public and private collections, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, in the museums of Le Havre, Libourne, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Amsterdam and Tunis.
