Louis XVI period chest of drawers in mahogany and mahogany veneer on an oak frame. It opens with three drawers in three rows. Rounded fluted uprights, spinning top legs finished with bronze shoes. Sainte Anne gray marble top surrounded by an openwork brass gallery. Stamped J.CAUMONT & Jurande hallmark. Very good condition, (original marble restored, key missing) Condition report and technical photographs on request. H. 89.5cm - W. 126cm - D. 58.5cm Jean CAUMONT (1736-1800), Master on December 14, 1774 Jean Caumont, obtained his master's degrees in Paris in 1774 and established his workshop and store on rue Traversière. He actively participated in the Revolution and was elected justice of the peace at the commercial court. His works, in the Transition and Louis XVI style, present a great variety both in their manufacture and in the materials used. Although we know of his roll-top desks, bouillotte tables, pedestal tables... Caumont especially excelled in the manufacture of secretaries and chests of drawers. Their often sought-after compositions are elegant and full of finesse. In his production, we find furniture with mahogany or satin veneer, and marquetry of colored wood, decorated with landscapes, flowers, branches or musical instruments often finely inlaid with ivory or mother-of-pearl. Around 1795, Jean Caumont ceased his activities and his son Claude Emmanuel succeeded him in his workshop.
