A grandiose site, one of the symbols of Finistère, so well described through this oil on canvas by the famous American impressionist painter Clarence Montfort Gihon. The sea with its monochrome blues and greens crashes calmly against the rocks and covers them with foam. In the background, the sea is peaceful, protected from the wind. Signed lower left “CM Gihon”. Located and annotated on the back on a label "The rocks St Jean du finger Finistère by Clarence de Montfort Gihon 51 bd Saint Jacques 14th". These indications, written in brown ink by the artist, appear once again on the crosspiece of the chassis. On its original canvas, it is highlighted by its stuccoed wooden channel frame with double patina, also original. Dimensions: Painting 55 cm x 46 cm (10 F format) Painting with its frame 67.5 cm x 58 cm In its original condition. No restoration, a simple cleaning of the canvas and the frame was carried out by a professional. Ready to be installed... Our painting is the work of the famous American impressionist painter Clarence-Montfort Gihon born in Philadelphia (USA). Gihon studied with William Merritt Chase and Kenyon Cox before traveling to Paris to study at the Académie Julian with JP Laurens and Benjamin Constant. CM Gihon remained in Paris for almost 35 years, exhibiting regularly in Parisian Salons, at the American Art Association of Paris and at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Gihon also continued to exhibit in the United States at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Influenced by the Impressionists, Gihon is particularly known for his scenes of Paris and the French countryside. Please note that I respond to any request about my items.
