These indications, written in brown ink by the artist, appear once again on the crosspiece of the chassis. Our painting is the work of the famous American impressionist painter Clarence-Montfort Gihon born in Philadelphia (USA). Gihon studied with William Merritt Chase and Kenyon Cox before traveling to Paris to study at the Académie Julian with JP Laurens and Benjamin Constant. CM Gihon remained in Paris for almost 35 years, exhibiting regularly in Parisian Salons, at the American Art Association of Paris and at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Gihon also continued to exhibit in the United States at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Influenced by the Impressionists, Gihon is particularly known for his scenes of Paris and the French countryside. Please note that I respond to any request about my items.
