Attributed to Godfried Schalken (1643-1706), "a Candlelight Scholar" Oil on panel, 28 x 23 cm. Very good condition, framed. On the reverse, two collector's stamps in red wax, as well as an exhibition label bearing the words: "SCHALKEN n26. A scholar (effect of light). An elderly man, seated in front of his desk writes in the light of 'a candle placed in front of him. Old collection.' We also find another label numbered 26. Finally, the number 130k (?) is written in black ink at the top.
