Object description :

"Chalice And Its Patene In Gilded Silver, Chest, France 19th Century"
Chalice and its paten in gilded silver in neo-Gothic style. The base with six lobes and projections is pierced with four-leaf latticework and highlighted with a frieze of pearls. It forms a domed terrace with embossed ornament, chiseled and guilloché with an openwork motif of aquatic plants and a trefoil cross. The barrel is tubular, decorated with a collar and a toric knot with six square buttons highlighted with quatrefoils in relief, chiselled with palmettes on each side. The slightly conical cup with a straight edge is set in a flowery and openwork under-cut which keeps the same polylobed and floral ornamentation as the terrace of the chalice foot. Weighted foot engraved with an inscription. France around 1885 Minerva hallmarks 950/1000 on the cup and on the paten. The set bears the hallmarks of the Lyon master goldsmith Favier Frères Chalice: Height: 22.5 cm Base diameter: 13.2 cm Gross weight: 394 gr Vermeil paten with openwork decoration of a trefoiled cross.
