Object description :

"Pewter Timbal - Paris, 18th Century"

TIMBALE in pewter in a flared shape with a gadrooned pedestal, engraved in full “au tremblé” of a young woman holding a bird and a dog running in a wooded and architectural landscape.
“Nave” control mark in force from 1765.
Hallmark of Pierre Martin ANTEAUME received master in 1766: crowned PMA monogram / P. (The latter P initial of PARIS)
Height: 11.8 cm.
PARIS, Last third of the 18th century

In good condition, some pitting and a tiny split under the lip are however reported.
These timbales are often called "coconut timbales", an expression allusive to the Parisian water merchants who flavored it with anise. Those they used, however, were probably not engraved for reasons of economy.
