Object description :

"“hercules And Omphale”, Plaster Bas-relief, Mold From The Original From Thorvaldsen Museum,"
Very rare cast of the original (also in plaster), sculpted at the end of the 18th century by Thorvaldsen.
This early work preserved by the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen seems to have suffered a little.
Our old casting bears the Museum plaque and was produced in very small numbers.
In Thorvaldsen's representation of the myth, Hercules submissive in tenderness to Omphale, helps her  with his needlework by holding the skein of wool.
The scene gives off a sense of serene marital harmony.
On the back, original hanging fitting
