Majolica - Choisy Le Roi ''neapolitan Fisherboy'' Designed By Henry Giraud (1805 - 1895)
French Majolica Choisy le Roi ‘’Neapolitan Fisherboy’’ designed by the
Belgian-French Sculptor Henry Giraud (1840?-1895), measurements 12
x 36 inches height
This work is reminiscent of the "Young Neapolitan Fisherman Playing with a Turtle" by his contemporary François Rude (1784-1855). His Neapolitan origin is indicated by his bonnet and scapular, a devotional object consisting of two small pieces of blessed cloth linked by cords worn around the neck.
The earthenware factory of Choisy-le-Roi, France produced
majolica from 1860 until 1910. The common mark is usually a black
ink stamped "Choisy-le-Roi" pictured to the right with the large "B".
The "HB" stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery.
The factory's work was some of the most delicate produced in
France
