Small Rosewood Writing Cabinet, Charles X Style – Mid-19th Century

Small writing cabinet in the Charles X style, made up of two elements. Its belt is fitted with a central drawer whose front, in rosewood veneer, is decorated with beautiful light wood marquetry surrounded by a lemon tree net. In the center, a fitted brass key is accompanied by an original working lock and highlighted by a threaded entry. Below, a ¼ round with brass square goes around the edge of the furniture. This set rests on 4 legs turned into a spindle with fixed grooves, with a brass ogee collar at the top and at the bottom, a concave-shaped spacer which connects and maintains the solidity of the four legs. The latter has marquetry on a rosewood background. In the center, we find a bronze pine cone. The feet are turned into a top shape. This cabinet has an upper part fitted with two doors decorated with light wood compositions on a rosewood background. These inlays are made up of roses, branches and foliage. Each scene is highlighted by lemon tree fillets. Between the two doors, we find a brass surface-mounted joint cover with groove on each side. The original lock is accompanied by a mesh entry highlighting the passage of the key. When opening, we discover a shelf. Below, two small drawers complete this storage space. This cabinet has a writing part that unfolds on brass hinges. It rests on the open drawer. The frame is in rosewood assembled with a miter cut and in the center we find new oxblood-colored leather with cold stamp, gold vignette and patterns on the corners. Finally, the top of the piece of furniture is garnished with an openwork brass gallery with a return on the front. Refined and elegant, this small piece of quality furniture with sculpted ornamentation will delight with its functionality and ideal dimensions. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
