Robert Tatin born January 9, 1902 in Laval and died December 16, 1983 in Cossé-le-Vivien is a French painter, sculptor, architect and ceramist. Representative of naive art, he is best known for having created a spectacular “Art Environment” which became the Robert-Tatin museum, in Cossé-le-Vivien (Mayenne). After spending his childhood and adolescence in Laval, Robert Tatin moved to Paris in 1918, where he held numerous jobs and at the same time engaged in various artistic activities. He studied drawing and painting while attending free academies. He is enrolled at the Paris School of Fine Arts and the fresco workshop of the Paris School of Applied Arts. He stayed there four years before doing his military service in Chartres. The post-war period was, for Robert Tatin, the moment when art took precedence over craftsmanship. He then became known as an artist to various critics and he rubbed shoulders with big names in the art world such as Jean Dubuffet, André Breton, Jean Paulhan, Jacques Prévert, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Cocteau, Aristide Caillaud, Benjamin Péret. It was alongside them that he actively participated in the reconstruction of Parisian cultural life in the aftermath of the Second World War....
