Object description :

"Georges Ricard-cordingley (1873- 1939), Edge Of Lake Geneva, Oil"
Georges RICARD-CORDINGLEY (1873- 1939) Edge of Lake Geneva Oil on canvas monogrammed lower left Dimension: 40.5 x 29 cm Dimension with frame: 52 x 40.5 cm Georges Ricard-Cordingley (1873-1939) is a French painter who discovered the maritime world, the atmosphere of the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer and the activity of fishermen from his childhood. Indeed, this place is linked to his family environment: he frequently goes there to visit his mother's sisters. Introduced to painting in 1887 by Jean-Charles Cazin, he multiplied the drawings of the different boats he encountered and landscape studies. He then joined the Lyon School of Fine Arts and stayed there from 1888 to 1889. He moved to Paris in 1890, where he studied at the Académie Julian. In 1901, he set up his workshop in Boulogne sur Mer. He divided his time between London, Paris and Boulogne-sur Mer and painted portraits and seascapes. From 1924 to 1928 he made numerous trips during his career to Normandy, Brittany, the Mediterranean Sea and North Africa. He then made a trip to the lake region (Switzerland, France and Italy), our painting certainly comes from this trip. His works are in many museums such as that of the Navy in Paris, in Toulon, in Boulogne sur Mer, in the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, in the Royal Collection in London and many other museums.
