Large group , depicting a gladiator , driving a chariot pulled by two horses , saluting as he passes "Cesar" , mounted on a column , by the sculptor , Emile-Louis Picault (1833-1915) .
Group with double patina , titled on the front of the terrace , "Ave Cesar Te Victor Salvet".
Signature of the sculptor "E.PICAULT" , hollow , on the naturalist terrace , richly chiseled and decorated .
Old edition sculpture , period second part of the 19th century .
Perfect state of conservation and patina .

Emile-Louis Picault (1833-1915)

Emile - Louis Picault is a famous French sculptor and medalist , born August 24 , 1833 in Paris .
He is particularly known for his bronze sculptures , which depict mythological or allegorical subjects .
A student of the painter Henri Paul Royer , he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon , between 1863 and 1914 , where he received an honorable mention in 1883 .
E.Picault often chooses warriors and heroes , praising patriotic virtues , through inscriptions , in Latin or French .
Historical or literary figures are also among his subjects .
A gifted orientalist , he also created works depicting Egyptian characters .
He is the author of the Monument to “Joseph Lakanal”, erected in Foix , in 1882 .
