EARLY ARTS-AFRICAN ARTS-SCULPTURE STATUE KONGO NTADI/BITUMBA DRC/ZAIRE EARLY 20TH CENTURY Kongo Ntadi/Bitumba funerary statue in sculpted/patinated stone, in amphibolic schist (or talc schist). These funerary statues can reach up to 1 meter in height. These stone statues, fewer in number than the wooden ones, were, it seems, reserved for important members of the community. Our statue could also have been used to burn votive ritual herbs during funeral ceremonies. Good general condition, restored head, patinated by smoke (traces, marks; see descriptive photos). Weight: 838 grams.
