A souvenir of the Grand Tour and the legend of the founding of Rome Flagship work of the Capitoline Museum in Rome following its donation by Sixtus IV, it evokes and symbolizes the city of Rome. The two twins, which some attribute to Pollaiolo, were added during the Renaissance, transforming the ancient Lateran symbol of justice into "Mater Romanorum". This work, which probably had no link, initially, with the legend of the origins of Rome, was most probably created during the 12th century Condition report Very good general condition, the carving is incisive, the patina is deep.
