Henry Benedict Clement Stuart

Oval-shaped miniature, oil on copper, representing Prince Henry Benedict Clement Stuart (1725 - 1807) posing in armor with the cord and star of the Order of the Garter. Cardinal York and younger brother of Prince Charles Edward Stuart. Attributed to Antonio David, Italian painter, Venice 1698-1750, son and follower of the Lugano painter Ludovico Antonio David. (David was the official Jacobite court painter living in Rome, he painted mainly portraits and for twenty years worked almost exclusively for the House of Stuart. He died in 1750). h. 10 x 7.5 cm. (15 x 13 cm. preserved under beveled glass in a later pink frame)
