Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1893 to 1898 where he was a student of JJ Jaquet and Charles Van Der Stappen (1843-1910). Started with religious sculptures Part of the “Le Labeur” circle founded in 1898 He exhibited there regularly from 1899. Evolved towards more contemporary subjects and drew his inspiration in particular from coal carriers, peasants and themes which testify to a certain commitment. If the themes are close to those of Constantin Meunier, some consider it more sensitive and more realistic. Played an important role in the composition of François Van Haelen's collection as an expert and purchasing agent for antiques.
