Dimensions outside the frame; 30.5 cm x 41.5 cm Flemish Baroque painter of maritime landscapes and particularly storms. Bonaventura Peeters is the brother of the painters Jan Peeters I, Gillis Peeters, and Catharina Peeters. He learned to paint from his father, who was a master in Antwerp and a member of the Saint-Luc guild from 1607-1608. He himself became a member of the guild of Saint-Luc d'Anvers in 1634. He made numerous sea voyages, painting ships on rough seas, and calmer views of the Scheldt (European river) and the coastline with a subtle and nuanced palette.
