Peter Orlando (1921-2009), Large Ceramic Pitcher Vase Signed Under The Base, 50s/60s

Peter Orlando, born in 1921 in the United States, in Orange, New Jersey, and died on November 29, 2009 in Saint-Céré (Lot), is an American ceramist and painter. His first drawing studies were carried out in the United States. In 1944, a soldier, he landed in France at Omaha Beach. A year later, he married a Parisian of his age, Denise Delgoulet. He returned to the United States in 1946. In 1948, he was again in France, thanks to a scholarship from the American government. He was admitted on file to the Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1950 he completed a pottery and ceramics internship at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres. In 1953 he opened a ceramics workshop in Paris, near the couple's apartment; its expression is modern and abstract. Denise creates the majority of the decorations on shapes created by her husband.
