"Peter Orlando (1921-2009), Large Ceramic Pitcher Vase Signed Under The Base, 50s/60s"
Peter Orlando, born in 1921 in the United States, in Orange, New Jersey, and died on November 29, 2009 in Saint-Céré (Lot), is an American ceramist and painter. His first drawing studies were carried out in the United States. In 1944, a soldier, he landed in France at Omaha Beach. A year later, he married a Parisian of his age, Denise Delgoulet. He returned to the United States in 1946. In 1948, he was again in France, thanks to a scholarship from the American government. He was admitted on file to the Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1950 he completed a pottery and ceramics internship at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres. In 1953 he opened a ceramics workshop in Paris, near the couple's apartment; its expression is modern and abstract. Denise creates the majority of the decorations on shapes created by her husband. The earthenware pieces, always decorative, but functional (vases, dishes, flasks, coffee services, etc.) are signed Peter Orlando, sometimes Denise Orlando, Orlando or Orla .
