Christian Techoueyres: SCULPTOR-DESIGNER

Maison Jansen: PUBLISHER Jean-Henri Jansen (1854-1928), of Dutch origin, was only around twenty years old when he created his company of Parisian design in 1880. When he died, Maison Jansen had become the world's leading international decoration company. Today, it is still considered one of the most notable period furniture companies and manufacturers in history, with its vintage floor lamps, lighting fixtures, and other furniture still in high demand. The House of Jansen became known on the international scene in 1883, when the young Jean-Henri Jansen traveled to Amsterdam to participate in the International Colonial Exhibition, an event which included presentations from 28 different nations and which attracted more than a million visitors. He exhibited there as part of the French pavilion and won the silver medal. This led to two important new clients: King William III of the Netherlands and King Alfonso XII of Spain. Next came King Leopold II of Belgium for the interiors of Laeken Castle, as well as commissions for King Farouk of Egypt and King Edward VII of Great Britain. Through participation in world exhibitions and fairs, Jansen has expanded the company's reputation to the point where its studios reign in such important cities as London, New York, Buenos Aires, Cairo and many others. Maison Jansen continued to produce furniture throughout the 20th century, responding to changing tastes. The workshop and studio officially closed in 1989.
