Object description :

"Pilasters Or Termini In Cipollino – 20th Century"

Pilasters or Termini in cipollino – 20th century.
Green cipollino marble, onyx from Circeo, white marble from Carrara.
Tuscany.
20th century.

The shaft of each pilaster or Terminus is made of cipollino marble from the Apuan Alps, northwest of Tuscany. Here in a bright, lavish green, in a symmetrical pattern. Each shaft is surrounded by yellow onyx from Circeo, crowned with a baguette and a cymatium in Carrara marble, both separated by a listel also in cipollino, whose pattern echoes that of the shaft. It is all supported by an astragal, an inverted doucine, a baguette and a plinth, all in white blue-veined Carrara marble.
