Pierre Mignard (1612-1695), Louis XIV period (Workshop) Portrait of a prince in his armor carved antique wooden frame with its original gilding, with decorations of acanthus leaves and daisies. This rare antique table seventeenth century, around 1670, representing a prince in full armor with a lace exceeding his neck; He wears a long curly hair. The painter has portrayed in an oval in profile bust his head turned to the left. He wears a thin mustache (as King). His eyes are bright, bubbly and authoritative. "Pierre Mignard, French classical painter of the seventeenth century, is best known for his portraits of the royal family or of his contemporaries. His reputation began during a stay in Rome in the early 1650s In 1657, Louis XIV invited him to Paris to work at the Court, and a step in Avignon saw his first encounter with Molière. He settled there a strong friendship and the painter became one of the few close to the actor outside his troop. In 1664 Mignard accomplishes the frescoes of the church of Val de Grace in Paris, Molière wrote in a eulogy published in 1669. Although he received royal approval, Mignard refused repeatedly to enter the Academy Royal painting and sculpture. It nevertheless became its director in 1690. Admired in the seventeenth, considered a model in the eighteenth, it will be forgotten or denigrated in the history of art from the nineteenth century.
