Object description :

"Bust Of Bacchus, Marcel Bouraine (1886-1948), Art Deco, Gilt Bronze, France, Before 1947."
Gilded bronze sculpture on a stone base representing a bust of Bacchus (Dionysus). The young god of fertility, wilderness and wine is depicted here with his main attribute: the vines wrapping around his hair.

France, before 1947, signed "M. BOURAINE", "BRONZE". On the front, a dedication plaque dated 1947.

Total height 30 cm (height of the figure alone 17 cm).

Marcel Bouraine (1886-1948) was born in 1886 in Pontoise, Île-de-France, France. He studied sculpture with Joseph-Alexandre Falguière. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries (1922). He is known for his numerous art deco works in terracotta and bronze and also created glass statuettes for the Gabriel Argy-Rousseau label. Good state of conservation, small frictions to the gilding and chipping of the stone base.
