Queillé And Béguin For Odiot - Sterling Silver Cutlery Set For 12, Paris Circa 1847

Artist: E. Queillé Et N.p. Béguin Pour Odiot
Solid silver cutlery set for dinner with rocailles decoration, the spatula decorated with a finely engraved monogram in Gothic letters and partially formed with an interesting and unusual scroll motif.
This set includes:
- 12 table forks (L.21,8 cm) ;
- 12 table spoons (L.22.2 cm) ;
- 12 tea spoons (L.15.2 cm).

Hallmarks:
- Minerve 1er titre (French guarantee mark for solid silver 950/1000).
- Master goldsmith: Nicolas-Pierre BÉGUIN (Paris 1840-1847) and Eugène QUEILLÉ (Paris 1847-1880) for 4 forks.

Paris, circa 1847, Louis-Philippe period.

Weight: approx. 2.102 kg.

In their original case.

Nicolas-Pierre BÉGUIN and Eugène QUEILLÉ were both suppliers to the prestigious ODIOT firm. The two hallmarks are frequently found on the cutlery from a set delivered by the famous silversmith, QUEILLÉ having taken over his colleague's work in 1847.
Cutlery delivered by ODIOT generally bears the dealer's hallmark in full and the hallmark of the master goldsmith who made the piece, but this is not always the case. The retailer's brand is often only on a few parts of a large set, or only on the knives blades, sometimes simply on the retailer's box.

Our model was delivered by Jean-Baptiste Claude ODIOT as Supplier to King Louis-Philippe in the 1840s, which corresponds to the dating of these pieces, probably made around 1847.
