"Christ In Bonds - 18th Century"
The wax bust represents Christ dressed in a perizonium, hands tied by a rope. Its head, tilted slightly to the side, is surrounded by a large crown of thorns. He is commonly called “Christ of bonds” or “Christ of derision”. The historical episode in question takes place after his Arrest and before his Crucifixion. We are at the moment of the double Trial… or mockery of a trial, hence the name given to this scene. A well-worked gilded wooden frame welcomes our polychrome Christ in its oval window. A work of devotion full of tenderness.
A work from the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century
Dimensions of 25 x 15 cm.
Good condition of the bust - missing in the frame.
