Michel SIMONIDY (1870-1933) Symbolist landscape at sunset, circa 1910 Oil on panel 48x65m Important Original gilded wood frame 72x90cm Michel Simonidy, known under the pseudonym Sim, born in 1870 in Bucharest, and died in 1933 in Paris, is a Romanian painter, illustrator, decorator and poster designer, one of the representatives of Art Nouveau. Coming from a Greek family established in Muntenia. I was baptized with a Greek name, Menelaus, but was called by a Romanian first name, Mihail, then after he settled in Paris, he Frenchified his first name to Michel. Simonidy favors refined, symbolist images, with a penchant for allegory. Painter of genre and nudes, he was a student of Léon Bonnat, Ferdinand Humbert and Gabriel Ferrier. He appeared at the Paris Exhibitions, received an honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 and a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. He exhibited at the Salon of the Société nationale des beaux-arts from 1908 to 1912. Poster artist , he composed among others for Braun Clément et Cie‏ photographers, La Bourboule and Le Figaro (series), Sarah Bernhardt in Théodora (Victorien Sardou). He is a friend of the poster artist Pal and the painter Désiré Lucas.
