Object description :

"Large Reliquary Paperolles Of Saints Martyrs - Late 17th Century"
Large dimensions of 43 cm by 53 by 7 cm thick for this Louis XIV period reliquary with its gilded wood frame. A remarkable work from the end of the 17th or very beginning of the 18th century. The Virgin in the central medallion, fine enhanced oval engraving, is integrated into a stylized monstrance and guarded by two sacred vases.
The whole thing, on a red background, is made of paper and is surrounded by a beautiful frieze. Two notable relics appear to the right and left of the Virgin, these are Saint Félicite and Saint Vincent, Martyrs of the first centuries. The rich frieze houses the relics of Saint Ignatius, Saint Camille and Saint Apolline in particular.
Interesting ownership mark on the back, indicating provenance: "Dutertre collection in Boulogne Sur Mer - 1934"
Very good condition.
