Pair Of Silvered Bronze Candlesticks, France, 18th Century
Ravishing pair of baluster-shaped candlesticks in silvered bronze. The stems are sculpted with deep fluting, which supports the fluted socket and removable nozzle. Each candlestick rests on a large circular base with undulating edges.
Commentary :
Wall sconces, chandeliers, candlesticks and candelabras considerably develop during the 17th century. Their refinement reflects the social situation of their owner. At the beginning of 18th century, ornemanistes bring a new life to decorative arts, liberating these from the Le Brun classicism and opening the way to Regence style, lighter and more intimate.
