"Dominique Pouchain (1951) Dieulefit; France: "horse", Ceramic; Dimensions: 29 X 21 X 17 Cm"
Dominique POUCHAIN (1951) Dieulefit; France: "Horse", Ceramic; Dimensions: 29 x 21 x 17 cm Dominique POUCHAIN lives and works in Dieulefit where he was born in 1956. He began his apprenticeship at the age of 17 in the workshop of his parents, Jacques and Rolande Pouchain. His father is a ceramist and painter, his mother a decorator. He registered as a craftsman with the Chamber of Trades in 1977 and then produced utility pottery. But quickly, he will tackle his first animal sculptures. The oxide juice he uses is one of the particularities of his work, a signature. Parts in a deep, matte black that absorbs light. The exhibition at the Ateliers d'Arts fair in Paris in 1985 was successful. The Z gallery, the Scorpion and the Jean-Charles Morato gallery decided to support and exhibit it. Morato felt the singularity of the man and his work, his support will be unfailing, his loyalty remarkable. In 1989, following the opening of the Galerie workshop in Dieulefit, Dominique Pouchain abandoned utilitarian production and devoted himself to sculpture. He returned to the Maison des Artistes in 1990. His encounter with alquifoux, a traditional Mediterranean enamel (lead galena) in 1992, offered his pieces a riot of intense and vivid colors, those which reflect light while black always so present, he absorbs it. Light is at the heart of research. Dominique Pouchain will conduct research into light and then into matter. Passionate, he works tirelessly, his bestiary grows, while the exhibitions follow one another. It is present in numerous private collections in France and abroad. He then begins to dream of his bronze pieces. In 2003, three bronzes were cast at the Barthélémy Foundry, the beginning of a collaboration that continues. Always as curious, he chose monotypes as a new avenue of research, monotypes which are invited to join the ceramics and bronzes exhibited at the Glineur Gallery, of which he has been one of the permanent artists since 2004.
