Extremely Rare Wild Boar In Gallic Bronze Miniature Sign
Extremely rare bronze wild boar from the Gallic period. The animal is represented with its front legs folded, its muzzle down and its crest bristling. The legs are welded together so that they can be attached to a base. This is what undoubtedly relates it to the boar-signs known in the Latenian Celtic world. The boar is superbly executed, the proportions are those represented on the other bronze boars discovered in Gaul. See those of Ribemont-Sur-Ancre and the oppidum of Titelberg. Certain boar-signs are represented on Gallic coins (among the Leuques, the Rèmes or the Ambiens for example, but also on Rutène coins, closer to the place of discovery of our example). Our copy measures 5cm long and 3.5cm high. End of the independent Gallic period (1st century BC).
