IMPORTANT REGENCY PERIOD CHEST Attributed to François GARNIER (? – died in 1774) PARIS, circa 1730 Dimensions: height: 86 cm; width: 142 cm; depth: 65 cm Tomb-shaped chest of drawers, with spectacular dimensions, in rosewood veneer applied in curling with double framing, and in butterfly wings. It opens with five drawers spread over three rows, separated by crosspieces lined with brass grooves. The whole is richly decorated with gilded bronzes (original mercury gilding), such as falls, sabots, falling hands including motifs of shells, staples, rocailles, foliage and cartouches with oak leaves, and the wrapped feet clogs of palms. This chest of drawers is topped with thick royal Hautmont marble, pinkish gray, with corbin beak, which follows the curved shapes of the facade and sides. Very good state of conservation.
