Jean-Georges Schlichtig, a talented Parisian master cabinetmaker, of German origin, received on October 2, 1765, settled in rue du faubourg Saint-Antoine then rue Saint-Nicolas to produce mainly transitional and Louis XVI furniture in wood veneer rose in violet or amaranth wood frames. He creates more sophisticated furniture, with rich and fine marquetry decoration, such as trophies or bouquets of flowers but also landscapes. A chest of drawers bearing the figure of Queen Marie-Antoinette now kept at the Louvre Museum attests to his qualities as a marquetry maker. Different museums preserve furniture from his workshop, Beauvais, Château de Champs sur Marne, Château de Chantilly, Carnavalet in Paris and the Louvre. He died in 1782.
