Object description :

"Kakemono Painting Legend Of Japan Silk"
This kakemono is a painting on silk surrounded by silk and a wooden stick covered with bone. This painting represents two mythical characters Jo (the man with his characteristic rake) and Uba (the woman who holds a broom), they are a venerable couple of old men, famous for personifying a long life of marital bliss and happiness. According to popular tradition, these old men are just two spirits inhabiting two old pines. As symbols of a very long life, turtles and cranes can be seen around them, which are symbols of longevity. This kakemono was often in the Japanese tradition, a wedding gift to bring the future couple a longevity, peaceful and harmonious life as a couple.
