Young Algerian girl holding pomegranates in a green garden signed Eugène Corneau is a French painter and engraver born June 18, 1894 in Vouzeron and died October 11, 1976 in Pontaubert. Eugène Corneau exhibited for the first time in 1918. He began to engrave in 1920, the year he became a founding member of the Young French Painting group, a member of the Society of French painters-engravers and of the Printmaking Society in 1924. The Abd-el-Tif prize was awarded to him in 1925 and he stayed with Albert Marquet in 1925 in La Goulette. He participated in the decoration of the large room of honor of the Pavilion of Algeria at the Colonial Exhibition of 1931 and 1937. Member of the National Book Committee in 1947, and of that of the Salon d'Automne in 1953, he was appointed professor of engraving at the School of Fine Arts of Algiers until 1962.
