Kilim Sofreh Kamoo Iran 130 X 128 Cm flag

Object description :

"Kilim Sofreh Kamoo Iran 130 X 128 Cm"
Kilim from Iranian Kurdistan wool, 1990-2000. Very good state.

On this beautiful sofreh, we notice abraches (change of wool bath) on the plain gray field of the kilim, as well as zigzags typical of sofrehs. This sofreh kamoo was made in a small workshop in Iranian Kurdistan. The know-how of these weavers continues an ancestral tradition with timeless patterns and abrached colors. Sofrehs were used as tablecloths or to protect bread. According to their uses, they could be square to keep the bread dough and the bread once cooked. They are called sofreh 'ardi' or 'nanpazi' (nan: bread, pazi: to bake). Larger ones, they are called sofreh 'roukorsi' (stove cover or hearth). Those that acted as tablecloths were long and narrow.
