Fritz Erler was born on December 15, 1868 in Frankenstein. In 1886, he began studying at the Royal Art School in Breslau in the class of Albrecht Bräuer. From 1892, he attended the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1895 he moved to Munich and from 1918 lived in Holzhausen am Ammersee. In 1886, he became co-founder of the magazine "Die Jugend" and in 1899 of the group of artists Die Scholle. During the First World War, he was the official military painter and designed advertising posters used for war propaganda. Erler was an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and Milan and a member of the Vienna and Munich Secessions. Fritz Erler died in Munich on December 11, 1940.
