Superb lithograph in black on gold background representing a golden eagle wounded by an arrow, realized by Paul Jouve.

This last one was realized within the framework of a collaboration between the publisher Gonin & Cie and Jouve, in order to illustrate the Fables of La Fontaine.

Published in 1929, this eagle illustrates the fable L'oiseau blessé d'une flèche, Livre II, fable 6:

"Mortally wounded by a feathered arrow,
A bird deplored his sad fate,
And said, while suffering an additional pain :
Must we contribute to our own misfortune!
Cruel humans! You draw from our wings
To make these mortal machines fly.
But do not mock, you merciless spawn:
Often it happens to you a fate like ours.
Of the children of Japet always a half
Will supply weapons to the other."
