Small enamelled ceramic bowl by Jean Rivier (1915 - 2017)

"Jean Rivier is an autodidact in the arts (painting, drawing , photo).
Born in Tunis, arrived in France as a child, he was first an apprentice watchmaker and jeweler while being a poet-writer.
In 1946, he trained as a ceramist with Emilie Decanis in Aix en Provence.
In 1952, he moved to Vallauris and welcomed French and foreign trainees in his studio, such as Dominique Baudart.
He met Juliette Derel.
The couple worked together until their separation in 1961.
From 1961, Jean Rivier imposed his own style with engraved decorations of cuneiform and abstract writing, inspired by the parietal art of Tassili (Desert of Hoggar Algeria) and art brut."
