Gabriel Viardot, Japanese Inspiration Presentation Showcase Art Nouveau Furniture

Signed “G. Viardot”. An elegant Japonist display cabinet in carved mahogany. The upper central section features a glazed display case opening through a glass door, revealing an interior fitted with two shelves. A drawer is positioned directly beneath the display case.

The piece is arranged in an asymmetrical composition characteristic of the Japonist aesthetic, with multiple shelves and tiered platforms distributed on either side, both in the upper and lower sections. The façade is enhanced with pierced panels, carved fretwork aprons, and gilt-bronze mounts. One of the lower doors is decorated with a marquetry panel enriched with pewter inlay, depicting a flower basket accompanied by a bird, while two bronze dragons further enliven the composition.

The cabinet stands on a multi-support base accentuated with motifs inspired by Far Eastern decorative arts.
