Biography: Brinckmann Philipp Hieronymus was born at Speyer in 1709, Germany.

He was a painter of religious compositions, allegorical subjects, portraits, animated landscapes and landscapes. He was also an engraver. Among his etchings are plates representing religious subjects, studies of heads and landscapes.

Brinckmann was taught by the famed master teacher and artist of portraits and historical subjects, Johann Georg Dathan (1701– 1749). In the late 1750s he studied in Paris under Johann Georg Wille. His favorite subjects were landscapes, but he also painted historical subjects and portraits. In his later works, the influence of powerful light and colouring of Rembrandt, can be seen.

He was painter at the Court and keeper of the Gallery at Mannheim, where he died in 1761.

Today Brinckmann works can be found in important public and private collections, including Museums of Strädel in Frankfurt, Konstanz and Mainz in Germany.
