The Mocking Of Christ
In 1952, Pinacoteca of Bologna bought on the English antiques market a painting representing the Mocked Christ by Annibale Carracci. The canvas that we present here is a variant of the Carracci workshop with the same subject, but with only the figure of Christ inside an oval without the executioners.
We think the painting should be attributed to Innocenzo Tacconi. No expertise is available.
The devotional image of the Mocked Christ enjoyed great success and was therefore certainly reproduced, as evidenced by the painting with a similar subject and date kept in the museum of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna.
This painting is in our Italian warehouse.
