"Pair Of Large Candelabra "aux Victoires Ailées" Signed Pierre Chibout Empire Period XIX"
Pair of large candelabras "Aux Victoires Ailées" signed Pierre Chibour * Empire period Early 19th century Each winged victory with remarkable carving supports a flowery basket from which spring three arms of light finely chiseled with acanthus leaves, the binets are delicately chiseled with scales. Each Victory stands on a gilt bronze sphere resting on a cylindrical shaft, richly carved with flowers, acanthus leaves and gadroons, placed on a square base with double evolution. Mercury gilding with double patina and brown patina original in very good condition (formerly drilled with electricity, only on the sconce part) All the bronze elements of these candelabra bear the letters "CHI" and the circular pieces chiselled with acanthus leaves on which rest the spheres are signed "Chibout" (see photos) *Pierre Chibout (1779 -1824) Master Parisian bronzier renowned for the finesse and details of his carvings, in 1806 he joined forces with Claude-François Rabiat, whose workshop he took over in 1815. His production was scarce, but the quality of his works is comparable to that of the great Parisian bronziers of that time.
