'AMAZONES', circa 1937 by Isobel Françoise Rodmell (1899–1972) French Huge 1930's cubist surreal scene titled 'Amazons' oil on canvas by Isobel Françoise Rodmell. Example of a large-scale exhibition of work by the artist who was a prominent figure in the movement with Picasso in the late 1930s. The work is offered on the market for the first time after being held by Rodmell and has since been with his descendants. The paint would benefit from professional relining and restoration. Solo exhibitions were held for the artist at the AIA Gallery, London in 1950 and at the Alexandra Hotel, Hove in 1964. His work is in the collection of the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, where he has recently been exhibited as part of the acclaimed exhibition 'A Life in Art: Lucy Wertheim, Patron, Collector, Gallerist', which also included works by Christopher Wood, Frances Hodgkins and Cedric Morris.
